Thirty years of building viking kit
Chow has been designing viking LARP garb since 1994. Each Chows Emporium viking piece has been worn at Empire, Lorien Trust and Curious Pastimes events, at German conventions including Drachenfest and ConQuest of Mythodea, and at Bicolline in Quebec. All Chows Emporium products are one size, with measurements on each individual product page if you have a question about measurements before ordering.
Head down: the layered viking build
Start at the top. From LARP Hoods & Mantles, a wool wrap covers the neck against wind and rain, with a fur layer across the shoulders for weight and silhouette. This is the most-worn piece a viking character owns. Buy a good one.
The mid layer. Underneath, a linen base for warm events, a wool base for cold, both from LARP Tunics & Viking Shirts. Over the top, either a faux leather outer for the warrior look or a fur-edged sleeveless layer for the warband traveller. Linen breathes well across summer events; wool earns its weight in October.
The waist anchor. A wide leather strap holds pouches, drinking horn, axe loop. A patterned wrap adds a second layer of colour and tie-point. Either works alone, both work together.
Lower body and arms. Cotton or wool legwear from LARP Trousers. For the arms, viking wraps, leg wraps if you want them, and forearm guards from LARP Leather Armour for combat. The complete character build covers the main outer layers; the lighter base pieces and legwear are easier to mix and match from the collections linked above.
Same kit, different system
Vikings are one of the most portable LARP archetypes. Switch from an Empire warband to a Drachenfest faction without changing the costume. The fabrics, layering and silhouette read viking across systems, and the same shoulder layer, base piece and waist wrap travel through three or four characters as your build evolves.
Worn at Empire, Drachenfest, Bicolline and ConQuest of Mythodea.
